Find support for your counseling career at Vis-à-Vis Counseling.

As a mental health counselor, I believe in not only supporting my clients but the next generation of counselors. I enjoy helping others learn, grow and develop. I have over two and a half decades of professional social service experience (click here for link to curriculum vitae) and have mentored many new staff over the years. I also have over 2.5 years of experience as a supervisor of a guidance counseling department for a federal government agency. In addition to my clinical practice, I also teach various courses in psychology for a local, non-profit, Hispanic-serving, private university. I have also completed relevant training on provision of clinical supervision including the following courses:

  • Tele Clinical Supervision in the Digital Age; May 19, 2022; E Care Behavioral Health Institute; 2 hours;

  • TeleSupervision and TeleConsultation, Online Self-Study; May 15, 2022, Telehealth Certificate Institute, LLC; 3 hours;

  • Telemental Health Counseling and Supervision Certification; Renewed Vision Training; November 2020; 15 hours;

  • Telesupervision Theory & Practice; Telebehavioral Health Institute; May 2019; 3 hours;

  • Approved Clinical Supervisor; Cascadia Training for Professional Development; August 2018; 15 hours.

Being a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) by the Washington State Department of Health, I completed all of the requirements to be an approved supervisor in Washington state as per WAC 246-809-234.  This means I can supervise and sign-off on all hours accrued by licensed mental health counselor associates (LMHCAs) who are working towards independent licensure.

Supervision, in my view, is a collaborative process between the supervisor and supervisee wherein clients are best served, and supervisees can optimally develop, when there is overlap between the orientations of the supervisor, supervisee and method of service the client is interested in receiving.

Subject to the interest of/consent of clients, I provide counseling from an eclectic orientation primarily utilizing Christian/Biblical principles, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rogerian/Client-Centered/Supportive Psychotherapy and Psychoeducation along with some influences from mindfulness traditions, positive psychology, existential psychotherapy and the Gottman method.

If you are interested in learning more about providing mental health services from all of the aforementioned orientations and you are a Washington state licensed mental health associate (LMHCA), let's connect and explore future opportunities.

When you work with me, you can expect a supportive mentor who helps you prepare for your new mental health career. Supervision services would include weekly meetings (possibly with one or more other LMHCAs present) whereby any of the following might occur: discussion on case conceptualization; diagnostic formulation; treatment plan development; review of documentation; provision of guidance, feedback and strategies for the unique situations you encounter with clients, answers to questions and/or guidance on where to learn more; sharing of challenges and successes; and training (e.g., on theoretical orientations, principles of counseling and psychology, relevant state and HIPAA rules and regulations, etc.).
